PC with XP wont boot up

  Gray59 16:38 24 Sep 04

Hi - Sorry about this - PC newbie I'm afraid...I've recently had my pc upgraded to run XP (ME previously) - everything was fine for a couple of days, but now when I try to boot the machine it gets as far as -
...verifying DMI pool data
...boot from CD

A disc read error occurred.

At this point all activity starts and it invites me to press Ctrl Alt Del.

Any help would be very greatfully received.

Thanks - Gray

Have you tried to boot from CD?

If you do, you may be able to do a repair of your OS.

Freeze at "Verifying DMI pool data" is usually caused by a hardware problem. In your case it looks like either the BIOS is looking for the wrong drive or there is some other problem with the hard drive or its connection to the motherboard. See if this article helps click here
