PC World/Packard Bell recovery software

My nephew just purchased a packard bell pc package from pc world.System recovery software was on the hard drive, so a back up of this was made to DVD. Although no original Win xp disk came with the pc, it seemed to be part of system recovery. It allows for a partial restore, back to factory settings or format hard drive with just XP installed.

Question: Are these system recovery software disks just as good as having the original XP disk or are they better?

I much prefer to have the original disk - that way I can install XP as I want it to be.

The system recovery disks are useful insofar as they take the PC back to how it was at new (if that's how you want it!).

Prefer a full XP disk.

because restore disks often use a hidden partition on HDD if HDD goes or is formatted then recovery disk is useless.

your best option now, is to use Acronis True Image to copy the drive to a CD / DVD or an external HDD.
