PC won't start, just bleeps

Can anyone help?

When I start my PC it fires up normally but then the monitor goes onto standby and then the PC starts bleeping.

Is my hard disk or graphics card bust???

At what exactly point does this happen?

You say fires up normally - you get into Windows??

It happens almost straight away, I don't get as far as Windows!!

Can you describe the bleeps please - it matters.

Please be free with information - too much is not a problem - too little simply prompts more questions!

Also can you please state which version of Windows and whether it is a series of beeps or one continuous whine.

Another point. As you cannot get into Windows are you sure the monitor is in standby, or is it simply failing.

The bleep lasts for about 2 seconds and then repeats.

I'm using Windows ME and my motherboard is an ABIT BE6 with a PIII 450, Voodoo 3 graphics card.

It sounds like Memory or Graphics Problem. Try reseating both, with the Computer Plug out

my pc bleeped once, rang a helpline they said it was overheating and my fan wasnt running. could be your problem, but i doubt it as it starts straight away. hope this might help.

One beep is normal, it is for power OK check

one beep is quite normal.

as said before i would suspect that the graphic card/ memeory is not seated correctly or is faulty.

try reseating both (one at a time though so you know which was wrong), if still nothing then could you borrow an old graphic card and try that.

I concur with the graphics or memory problem suggestions.
