Left PC when went to work, ok. Came back and it is dead. Key things:

1)No boot at all. Press power switch nothing happens. No beeps etc.

2)Suspect its the PSU but strangely on the motherboard there is a green led light on indicating power.

3)Last night set up LAN and fiddled with firewall replacing Sygate with ZoneAlarm, installed latest XP update but other than that have not fiddled with software/hardware.

4)If fault was with component other than PSU wouldnt it at least beep errors. So can only think if not PSU than the mobo is gone?

Very very grateful for advice. Spec is (nay help?)

No beeps no fans is usually PSU

As you have a small amount of power to board mains lead and plug look to be ok.

Try unplugging power from CD DVD and harddrives remove all USB devices and see if it will do anything then.

Going to order new PSU. A basic question at present I have ATX Case/PSU 400w

Do I need to go for same Watts, or is it worth increasing to more.

Do I just look for AMD compatable PSU

thanks

400w is more than enough if the machine is only for work urposes. Get one that says AMD suitable and you will be fine.

Something similar happened to me and it was only when I disconnected my all in one printer did it start up. I was told that all USB devices draw power from the cpu and therefore the PSU will often not have enough power to even start the machine. See what you think?
