pc won't POST

it gets as far as slave ide but won't go pass this to get to next step. tried; loading defaults in bios, changed ide cables, replaced hdd and cdrom, left cdrom off so only primary hdd is connected, replaced floppy drive. any ideas would be apppreciated.

are the jumpers set corectly on the slave ect?
with out it in computer dose it boot?

What about RAM? How many pieces are you using? RAM can often be a cause of failed PC booting - maybe try just the one stick then another and seeing if this helps at all?

Next, if that doesn't help, try swapping graphics card etc if you can to eliminate causes of hardware failure.

have you added anything to the pc lately. added usb2 card reader to my pc, which stopped my pc from booting if plugged into certain usb ports but works ok if plugged into the others.
