PC won't defrag

  Pablothehat 16:33 09 Apr 03

Trying to defrag hard drive and I get an error message telling me that I don't have enough memory and to quit some applications. Done that with Cnt-Alt-Del till there is only Exporer running and it still won't let me defrag.
I'. running Windows 98SE on AMD 2100+ with MX440 and 80gig harddrive. Help.

Try re-booting to safe mode, and defrag from there. J.

you need to leave SYSTRAY running as well as explorer

I also cannot run defrag - get the message that my disk has errors - run Scandisk. I've run Scandisk (standard & thorough), it fixed all errors but I still get same message when trying to run defrag. I've tried this in safe mode also - still the same. Any clues

Are you trying to run defrag from, start/run, and typing the word.

Or from start/programs/accessories/system tools/defrag ?
