PC will not switch on

  jarani 21:10 14 Oct 08

I have a Medion PC bought at Aldi Aug06
so far it worked perfectly used fairly hard
on Sun last it just would not switch on am

I kept pressing the Start button from time to time
during the day - sometimes it would react for 2 seconds but would not start

on Monday it started and worked all day
today it will not start again

what could be the reason please ?

Sounds like your PSU have died.

  Technotiger 21:15 14 Oct 08

Ooops - has (not have) ...

  jarani 21:22 14 Oct 08

Technotiger - thank you
would that not prevent any restarting ?
PSU = power supply Unit ?
the power is on a common split lead to PC and Monitor
Monitor works OK

The PSU does not power the monitor, so a dud PSU would not make any difference to the monitor.

Aldi is three year warranty, So why not ring Medion

  jarani 21:41 14 Oct 08

Technotiger - I meant
power gets to the PC on the common power cable
if PSU fails, would that not prevent the PC working the next day ? or is it just on/off failure ?

  woodchip 21:43 14 Oct 08

PSU's just stop working. Light on the front working does not mean a thing

woodchip - I rang them - they suggested a motherboard failure
I just wanted to have a better idea of what may be involved

  Technotiger 21:47 14 Oct 08

A mobo failure is not impossible, but if DIY then PSU is easiest to sort out.

However, if Medion will sort it out under the warranty, that would be the best idea.

Power only gets to the PC via the PSU in the PC's case. Dead or dying PSU's can still provide some power, but not enough to run the PC.
