running windows xp on an advent pc i put an xd camara card in and tried to format it and failed
so shut down without removing card
now when i start the pc the screen says no signal
then goes blank and comes up intel pentium 4
and then nothing else happens have tried pressing all the f buttons on start up but no results

Try tapping the F8 key on bootup to get into safe mode, merely holding the key down will not work.

sorry should have made it clearer was tapping not holding the f keys (tried them all )

Do you start tapping f8 the moment you switch on, and continue until you get the menu of boot choices? If not, you might be missing the opportunity.

have been tapping from switch on no result
Any other ideas am getting desperate
only thing i can try is starting up with
recovery disc but dont want to lose everything
by trying this

as the card reader will be connected to usb header on motherboard, take side off computer and remove the header plug. then try booting to safe mode and do a system restore

problem solved thanks to all who helped
switched pc off with power switch ar rear of pc
(not usual switch on front )
when i restored power pc booted as normal
have no idea why this worked but took the precaution of restoring system to last good settings anyway
