My Home PC has been failing on start-up and giving the error message missing or corrupt config system.

I tried to follow the instructions from microsoft

but when I tried to enter the commands, I kept getting bad command or file name errors. Then eventually the computer would freeze.
Now when I boot from the CD it seems to load all the files, but when it gets to Setup is loading Windows it freezes or goes to the BSOD. Sorry if the description is a bit sketchy, but the computer is at home and I'm not.

Also the CPU temperature seems to rise very quickly to around 60 C which seems very high.

Try 'sfc /scannow' from Run.

In Safe Mode.

A ChkDsk session should sort it out.

thanks, but I can't get PC to start in safe mode - still get the missing or corrupt config sys error.
Basically all I can do is get into the BIOS and that's about it.
