PC takes several attemps to bootup

when I turn-on the pc it tries to boot but shuts down within 5sec and before anything appears on my monitor screen. I am not able to enter into BIOS also. If I try turning on the PC for several times it will finaly bootup after 5-10 attemps and then I can able to work without any problems. But once I shutdown it again takes several attemps to boot up. This sounds strange but I am fedup of looking solution for this issue and afraid that it may permanently go dead.
This PC was working fine earlier but recently I am facing this issue even though I didn't make any hardware/software change. This is a Intel P4 2GHz processor with WinXP OS.

I ruled-out possibility of any hardware failure as it boots up after few attemps of turn on/off.

Please if anybody faced similar issue or do suspect anything wrong kindly let me know

Sounds like your PSU may be on its way out. Alternatively it could be the BIOS battery.
