PC shuts down immediately after starting

My old PC running WinXP Home has suddenly started shutting down immediately after completeing it's startup. It completes everything in it's startup folder then shuts down.

Starts OK in safe mode and I have done a system restore to last week when I know it was working OK. This has not resolved the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this and have any pointers, before I start systematically working through msconfig to find the culprit?

Cheers,
Lee

If the PC boots in Safe Mode [SM] then you have a driver problem.

Boot in SM and disable all unnecessary drivers (sound card, usb, network card etc). Reboot the PC.

If it boots ok, start enabling the drivers until you find the culprit.

HTH,

Chris.
