PC shut down

  Matata 15:14 24 Sep 05

When I press the start and shut down buttons, the computer does not shut off at all. All I get is a black screen and I have to switch the mains off and on and start the process again and only then can I switch off properly.

I would suggest you run a repair of your system(check help ). This may cure the problem.

I think Vog link is as good as it's going to get, But You could go to Run type MSCONFIG startup tab and shut all programs by removing the tick for those that do not need to start at boot. Leave AV and Firewall running

You could also try, put your WinME CD in comp and run setup it may correct corrupt files
