PC says 3rd Disk Failing but there isn'tone there

Here's one for you experts out there - to my knowledge I haven't done any thing different before but my PC boot stops before XP screen with the message telling me that my 3rd Hard Drive is bad and to back up & replace, press F1 to proceed. I press F1 and the PC continues to XP and everything works as before. Problem is I haven't got a 3rd Disk! I've tried all sorts of utilities which all conclude the PC is fine.

Appreciate some help on this as it is really annoying, many thanks in anticipation.

Do you have any disk partitions or do you have an external HDD or even a flash drive plugged in ?

KremmenUK = thanks for the quick reply.

No nothing is different but I have just looked into the BIOS and it is designating my 2nd HDD as a 3rd HDD so I appear to have possibly solved my own problem? It looks like I may have a failing 2nd HDD; fortunately I have a complete back up so I may wait and see if it goes. I already have a spare HDD.

I'd run a manual chkdsk and what that reports.

If any errors detected then I'd put a replacement in asap.
