Mt PC running XP home SP2 has developed an annoying problem. It has started to hang on occasions and on at other times it reboots all on its own. I installeda new power unit but the propblem is still ther. The HD was replaced in the summer.

First thing first is to type this "eventvwr.msc" into run, click the system folder and see whats happening.

Does the machine restart with an error message or just re-boot? If the latter then..

1) Open up Control Panel.

2) Open up the "System Properties"

3) go to the "Advanced" tab.

4) press the "settings" button for "Startup and Recovery"

5) remove the tick from "auto-reboot".

This will give you an error instead of just restarting.

I will try this SpikeyChris.

I do not get an error message and each time the machine restarts I get one of those MS reporting logs. When I ask for details it is ia different thing each time that has gone wrong?

I have upgraded Norton recently over the net?

If you think its a software issue you could try system restore.
