O.K. I know this is a much reported problem and I notice a similar one has just appeared in the forum, but my pc has been randomly shutting off for months now. Furthermore, on rebooting the monitor never comes back on and I have to leave it for several hours before I can get a normal power on. There have been no hardware changes, it just sudddenly happened one time and has continued since. I know it isn't a software problem because in frustration I re-formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows Vista business. However, halfway through the installation it shut down. I have now also replaced the power supply with an identical new one and the RAM (2GB)seems fine. Both fans operate as seems normal and speed fan reports no unusual temperature readings. ANy one got any suggestions as to what may be the cause and what to do next, please?

Random shutdowns can be cause by:-

1. Bad memory
2. Bad hdd, which can cause -
3. Corrupt system files
4. Power supply unit problems
5. Voltage spikes on your home electrical system (fridges switching off etc.)
6. Overheat (blocked heat sinks, bad thermal paste, faulty fans)
7. Faulty CPU
8. Faulty motherboard.

Most likely is 4-6-1
