Motherboard: VIA MS8157E, CPU: Athlon XP 2000+, RAM: 648MB DDR266, Op Sys: Win XP Pro

I have tried several times to fit a new AGP graphics card to my system starting with a Gainward Geforce FX5600 then a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Each time I start the PC after the new graphics card has been installed, after between 1 and 30 minutes,a blue screen appears on the screen briefly indicating some type of problem though is too quick and contains too much text to read in the time it appears for, then the power to cuts out and the PC restarts. I've tried uninstalling the onboard graphics drivers with no luck. The card is definately compatible with my system.

I was thinking it might be a fault with the AGP slot as the problem has only appeared when I have an AGP card fitted so far but I'm not really sure.

Anyone encountered this prob before or got any ideas?

Thanks
Rich

Just a stab in the dark - what is the wattage of your psu? - I have a Radeon 9700pro which requires a seperate power feed to the graphics card, I don't know if this applies to the 9800 but maybe you are drawing too much power for your psu.

300Watt should be fine on your spec.. 9800 does require seperate molex to be connected

Your motherboard can only support agp x4 by the way. click here

I have a 350 PSU though it is a Pentium 3 PSU. Don't know whether or not this makes a difference.

do you have direct x9 installed also?

I asked the manufacturer who said that the Graphics card supports AGP 4X and that this should be fine for it to work with my system

I would contemplate a format of C:\ and start afresh some conflict with windows i expect as its blue screening

and I do have DirectX 9

have u downloaded the updated drivers for the card. I had a 9200 se, and everytime i did a certain task eg play halo, close fltsim etc, the system would reboot itself. I went to the website, and i downloaded the up-to date drivers. and one of the fixes was the robooting in xp, so perhaps you have the same prob.I now have a 9800xt which kicks ass.
