I have just bought a new mother board and it intermittently will not detect that the cat 5 is connected at startup. If I unplug the cable and plug it in it will then detect it (this can take several attempts) I am using win 7 but it was the same on vista, and all drivers are up to date.

Have you tried a different cat 5 cable? Possible cable fault!

First thing I did was try a new cat 5 cable. I have 2 cat 5 ports running from my BT hub to my pc and Xbox 360, I have tried the other port as well and it the same, and the 360 connects every time no problems.

I don't know if it would make any difference, but do you have the latest Version 2.0 BT Hub?

Another thought is, perhaps a dry-joint or other fault on the mobo?
