pc keeps shutting down

just recently my computer seems to have developed a mind of its own.when i switch it on i get between 20 minutes and 3 hours usage before everything just shuts down.i unplug it leave it for a few minutes and it will start up again no problems until it decides to shut down again.any ideas please? many thanks

Overheating would be my first thought. Check all the fans are working.

Totally-braindead is very likely right given the time it takes to shutdown.

You could buy a can of compressed air, alternatively you could use a Hair-drier and a dry paint brush to clean the dust off the fans.

i have cleaned all the fans and the pc has been working fine for the last 12 hours.many thanks to you all.
