PC keeps rebooting after power cut

Hi,
PC running Win XP, had a power cut, then it would not boot.
Any option after hitting F8 just resulted in PC rebooting.
Ran Repair console from the XP CD and did CHKDSK, then it would boot into Windows ok but would randomly power off and restart.
Now I am trying to do a repair install of Win XP over the existing OS but it reboots part way through the install and starts from the beginning again.I have tried this probably 10 times and it reboots at a different point each time.
Any ideas ?
Thanks.

you could always format the hard drive and completely re-install XP? You might lose a lot of important stuff if you can't get into dos first and back it all up though.

sounds a bit like a faulty power supply - have you another that you could put in and try?
