XP Home SP3
Since upgrading to a new PC from XP Home SP2 I keep having to re-boot my hp psc 950 series before I can print with it.
I can often print several items then I have to re-boot to get it recognised again.
Never had any problem for 7 years on the old PC.
Searched in Device Manager and HP help, but no clues.
Any ideas please?
Thanks.

HP are poor Printer Drivers. Try downloading and installing the Latest Drivers from HP

HP notorious for this, good printers, rubbish software.

Happens to me regularly, both with XP and now Win 7.

I suppose really I should junk it, but, as I said, I like their printers.

Thanks all.

I have to say that my opinion of this HP printer is excellent ( up till now!)
I haven't used a red cleaner yet on this PC, but did regularly on the old one and never had problems.

I will try that.
I have just had a thought--I am using InkSaver which I have used for years and I have it set to 'notify me before printing' so I can adjust the saving %. This screen is not appearing when the printer has vanished. So it might be an error with I.S.
Will check it out.

I.S. works along with printer driver, so it may very well be the problem. try reinstall both lots of software after removing the old. remove traces and folders of the programs

And Inksaver also incorporates a remove printer function - so I agree with woodchip

Many thanks to all.
Second re-install has cured it.
