Hi Guys, my pc has been playing up lately and doing many strange and wonderful things, sometimes it wont boot up other times its just keeps freezing, have come across a message in system information error log which looks very strange, dont know if this is reason for the strange going on's .The message reads " amli:acpi biosis attempting to read from illegal 10 port address (0x75) which lies in the 0x74-0x76 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. pleas contact your system vendor for technical assistance" any ideas please. o/s is xp pro, sp2.

sometimes. My nav did find and remove a trojan a few days ago, have scanned using spybot, adaware A2 and spy sweeper seems ok .Have taken the side off, thought it might be over heating.

How many beeps do you get on startup? If there's sometimes 1 long one then a couple of short ones it could be faulty memory. Another reason for this message is a BIOS problem. Go to the website of your motherboard manufacturer and download a BIOS update to see if this solves the problem.

Taking the side off makes heating matters worse, air flow across the components is compromised.

FReeezing PC

1. Overheat due to faulty / blocked fans

2. PSU voltages

3. Household power surges fridge etc switching on/off

4. faulty memory stick try memtest click here

5. virus or spyware scan for both especially if shutting down with in a few minutes of switch on or internet use

6. driver conflicts especially grahics cards get the latest drivers for your equipment

Not always, never as with mine it always improves the cooling on mine when I have done it. Only speaking from my own experience
