PC hangs when viewing video.

I run XP home, with two hard drives (one external) my internal drive has currently 47% free, plus I have 512 mb Ram.
Just recently I downloaded an instructional video from the web site of a piece of equipment I have just bought, this was in the form of a zip file which I opened in Win Zip, but when I run the video, after a few moments my PC hangs. Nothing works mouse, keyboard etc, the only way I can turn off the PC is with the power button on the PC itself, and then reboot. I have tried three times now with the same result, can anyone tell me why this should happen, or if there is another way of viewing the video?
The rest of my programs function OK.

Perhaps your memory is not coping well enough. If you run a program such as CACHEMAN,you will be able to keep a check on how much free memory you have.I have 512mb and when doing image editing I find it runs very near its limits.
