PC goes into standby

Using Win98SE. Two difficulties.

First - sometimes PC goes into standby if I pick up keyboard to move it or if I accidentally brush some keys. I can't however make it do it to order.

I am no doubt being thick but I can't find in the Win98SE help how you bring the PC out of standby and running as when it went into standby. If I can get this sorted, then the second difficulty may not be necessary.

I imagine it is finger trouble or not knowing what to look for in help but it is causing me frustration. All I can do is to power it off using the start button or the other button adjacent to it. This of course switches PC off incorrectly then on starting it runs scandisk and it takes ages. Grrr!

I am sure the answer is straightforward. All I need to know is what it is!

Second - is there any way of disabling the standby function so this fault doesn't happen?

TIA

From one Old Git to another, click here should help with the shutdown problem.
