My PC has started to crash after a few minutes of use. I am running XP Home SP2 and I will be working away when I suddenly get a blue screen with a warning that windows for security is going to shut down. It asks if I have installed new hardware and it also states that it is dumping memory and counts down from 100 be restarting. Once it restarts all is fine for a while.

I have not installed any new hardware?

Hi, try a System Restore back to before this started happening.

Do you have any error codes that appear on screen.

Possibly memory failure,or a driver issue.

Can you check Device manager for any yellow exclaimation marks

Windows key+Pausebreak/Hardware/Device Manager.

I surgest testing your computers memory (RAM)
and testing the hard drive just in case

Download both tests and burn each to CD / floppy disk.
See website for more information.

Memtest: click here

Seagate HDD Test: click here

Maxtor HDD Test: click here

Thanks everyone.
I have tried restore and an over the top repair.

I will try the two test recommended by Ben and let you all know.

Have you checked device manager ?
Do you have any error codes ?

You could try to stop the restarting by:

Windows key+pausebreak/Advanced/Startup and Recovery/
Untick automatically restart and ok.
