PC card or Dongle

I want to set up a home network. Im on Virgin DSL and have a motorola modem. All the router kits I have been looking at have a usb dongle with them. My question is, what is the difference between a card and a dongle? Is the card faster/ more reliable than a dongle or does it make little differance. My pc runs Vista and has a spare pci express slot.

USB adapters are usually supplied because a lot of people don't fancy opening their PC to insert a PCI card , having said that , the PCI cards are hidden behind a PC and can get a bit of interference from the internals , plus the bulk of a tower can block the signal , at least a USB dongle can be strung on an extension lead to take it away from the PC and positioned for the best effect , they also get quite hot , so having them isolated is no bad thing .
