I have a new laptop, Vaio VGN-AR31E. It Has a PC Card Slot and an Express Card module Slot. I don't really know what these are for, it seems to me that a USB Flash Drive will do the same job but better. Can someone please explain to me.
Thank you Rawprawn

These are expansion slots - eg for a network card or a modem. Both are pretty redundant nowadays but in the past I had a network card in the PC Card Slot; other uses would be for an external optical drive or a range of hardware.

The express was a technology that never took off.

Thank you Diodorus Siculus, why on earth they should put these on an up to date laptop I have no idea.

Possibly for the sake of legacy hardware although I really don't know of any that is necessary for a modern PC.

Can anyone tell me what they use one for nowadays?
