Hi there have a problem PC is taking an age to boot up can anyone help

PC spec is 2.66ghz 512mhz Ram 256mhz Graphics and Windows XP sp 2

svchost.exe seems to be grabbing all the processor time during run up, when the pc is booted all seems ok

Done all the usually like checking for spyware malware etc, and defrag and all that stuff so no suggestions there please

Maybe a clean install is the way forward but don't wanna do that(its like admitting defeat).

a) Clear out all temporay files and folders -- use Crap Cleaner click here

c) Clean the registry -- Free Registry cleaners :-
RegscrubXP click here
Regseeker click here
TweakNow RegCleaner 1.3.2 click here
Easycleaner click here ( Use with care, It advises you to back up the registry first, this is a good idea as it cleans rather aggressively. )

If you haven't already done the above.

e) Cut down on the programs that load at startup -- Start - Run type msconfig - startup tab- untick everything except for firewall, antivirus and antispyware

and the services that run in the background. click here

Svchost.exe Is Microsoft program, So Probably only doing its job,According to my Firewall, It is a safe progran needed in the running of Microsoft,Has something to do with DLLs.And should not be terminated.

Could it be a Firewall Or Cookie problem,Even Windows Defender Pops up now and then,To Allow Or Deny New Programs.Or even Up dated ones.Sorry cant help you with Svchost.Exe,Unless it is strugling to Run one of the start up programs,Maybe like vog said , Get rid of some of your start up programs, But I presume that you have already done that,Could try starting your computer With your Firewall turned Off,Or your Anti-Virus turned Off,Or Cookies Turned off,One at a time,See If that helps,At least it would let you know its not one of those thats causing the problem.
