PC behaving badly

Hi
My desktop running XP home has an AMD Athlon with a 250Gb c drive, using a 25 Gb partion which is 50% full.
Reason for telling you this is because I upgraded my hard drive last week however, even before the upgrade, the PC on boot up would stop and report "keyboard error or keyboard missing". No amount of keyboard tapping can resolve this and several re-boots are needed to remedy. The keyboard has been tried with USB and PS/2 connectors but same result.

What is the most likely cause? Many thanks,
Sam

Tried a different keyboard?
Any blue screen crashes while using Windows itself?

Assuming the keyboard works OK when in Windows is there an option in the BIOS to disable the warning message for no keyboard?

If another keyboard does not fix it. you may have a bad connection on the motherboard

go into the bios by press del
then set the usb and keybord to legacy .
