I keep losing the date and time on my pc , is it likely to be the battery or something more sinister. Dave

i am assuming this happens after you have shut down then rebooted if that is the case it could well be the battery

It could be a virus, maybe located in the BIOS.

How old is the pc etc... ?

If you physically turn off or unplug the mains socket when you switch down, then it's likely to be the battery.

If this is the case then you could try this. Shut down the system, but leave the power lead to the computer still switched on. So it is still sending current to the psu. If you then reboot and the time \ date thing is still the same the odds are that it is the battery.
