Pausable/restartable downloads?

  DIYgirl 17:55 04 Apr 07

I'm on dial-up (we're too remote to get broadband here) and am having more and more trouble with downloading stuff. There's a Zonealarm update out now which would take three or four hours to download to my computer, if only I could stay online for that amount of time--I get disconnected after a couple of hours, then when I reconnect I have to restart the download.

Is there a program available which will allow me to restart the download from the point it was at before I got disconnected? At present my only option is to get my Dad to download things for me and, as I'm now 44, I feel a little too old to still be running to him for help all the time (not that he objects).

Try Internet Download Manager from Softpedia, you can have it on trial. It is very fast.

I've used FreshDownload, as mentioned by MAJ, for several years.

It has no ads etc, can be Paused or will Resume downloads (if supported by a website) and works as it says on the tin.

Works equally well with dialup or broadband.
