passwords on files

Have a file created in excel on win 95 and set up password protect. On upgrading to 98se I was able to copy the file across with no problems. However on an upgrade to xp the file refuses to copy across saying that its password protected and will not install on the xp machine. Any info much appreciated

Un-protect the file while you transfer it, then set the password up again.

tried that recap but unfortunately it wont let me, which made me think did something happen between win 95 and 98

Won't let you unprotect the file or transfer the unprotected file to XP?

It is very easy to unprotect Excel files but for obvious reasons I cannot post how to do it here.

wont let me unprotect the file so if I try to save as comes up with a message (at another comp) something like unable to save due to password
