My grandson partitioned the hard drive leaving me with partition NTFS AMD FAT32.What are the benefits of having two drives.

By splitting a hard drive into two partitions you can separate files and protect them, if you want, away from the OS. However, a second partition on a drive uses some of the volume space and reduces the room you have available to use; this is less of a problem if you have a large capacity drive.

It will not protect you from data loss if the drive fails; only a second hard drive or backups on other media can do that.

Really and truly it is personal preference, but if you want to keep your grandson away from your data you could always tell him only to use the second partition.
