Partition Magic Hangs

  crimbo 10:48 05 Jul 03

My system runs Win XP home and i have a western digital hard drive, and a gigabyte motherboard. I own both Partition magic 8, and drive image 2002, but each time i try to partition my hard drive it hangs when the partition is being created in pseudo dos mode after partition magic has restarted the computer. I realise partitioning does take some time, but it just hangs at a certain percentage (last time 34%)for 90 mins. Then i press cancel, and usually have to use the XP repair console to rebuild the MBR, any suggestions gratefully received before i bin two applications other people swear by! PS i have ensured that i have disabled viru scanningin my BIOS.

Thanks, but because it doesn't finish, i never get an error message, because usually i'm unable to boot back into windows

I had this on w2k. A clean un/re-install fixed it.

Thanks Michelle, do you mean reinstall windows xp?

have you run chkdsk and defrag before resising?

Thanks Michelle & huggyg71, I downloaded the update, and it now works like a dream, i've imaged my C Drive, and now feel a lot more secure in my tinkering! Regards, Kevin
