can some please what a partition is on the hard drive and why is it important?

it is like splitting your hard drive into portions so maybe yo keep windows on one part maybe a copy on another and files/data on another and a back up or separate windows/linux all indipendant so if anything goes wrong all is not lost

A partition (or partitions) are simply the way that you may divide up a hard drive.

So for example, if your hard drive is shown partitioned as one large drive, you have one partition, but if you choose to divide it into two, you will have two partitions and so on.

Each partition in Windows will show up as a different letter. eg. Drive C:, D:, E:, etc. even though, physically, the drive is only one drive.

Think of your hard drive as if it was one huge cupboard, one big empty space. If you partition it you put drawers in it and you can then put things into each drawer.
