parallel to usb b connectivity?

Hi,I wonder if any one can help?
I have a male parallel Irda(infra red)lead and want to connect it to my usb printer (usb b),can i do this or do I need to get an old parallel printer? or can I plug the parallel lead straight into my parallel port on my pc and print that way,I havent tried this as I am a bit worried.

Why not just use a usb cable from the printer to the computer connection socket?.

If you have a USB socket on your computer, you can connect your USB printer to it with a USB cable. If you have also a parallel out on your printer you can use that with a parallel cable to your computer. If you only have a USB in on your printer and only a Parallel out on your computer you can buy a converter cable( USB to Parallel to connect your printer.
