Parallel port does not talk to Printer

I have a PC where my printer is not able to communicate with the PC. I have tested the printer on another computer and it works fine. I have downloaded the latest printer drivers and installed a new Parallel cable.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this communication problem?

Possibly the parallel port connector on the motherboard has failed. This can easily happen if a device has been "hot-plugged" into the port, that is to say connected whilst the computer is switched on. If this is the case, it is not repairable but you can get parallel port PCI cards.

Check the parallel port setup in the BIOS - I have seen some motherboards where some settings simply do not work. Try it first on SPP (or Standard). The aim is to get it going on ECP if possible.
