packard bell non power up.......Help please

  wotno 23:43 17 Dec 07

Whilst using my Packard Bell computer (modelutow-co2) it seemed to loose power and the usual blue neon power button started flashing orange and the little red light stayed on with a continuous beep beep noise. It sounded like the fan was cutting in and out. Took the cover off to taake a peek. Little fan is working but the big one isnt. Any ides before I take it in for expensive repair or replacement. Am technically minded and ok with a tester/meter...... Any help gratefully appreciated.........

As none of us can see the inside of your PC, `big fan` and `little fan` don't mean much. Possibilities include PSU failure, CPU/CPU fan failure, motherboard problem. A fan about 3 inches across mounted directly on to the motherboard will be your CPU fan, if that's not moving then your CPU will most likely be damaged beyond repair. If you have internal fans (60-80mm) placed at air-vents in your case, they're not critical and can be easily replaced. If your PSU fan is not working that will spell trouble too.
