Packard Bell Heatsink

The heatsink on my packard bell imedia 1801/b has broken by the plastic clips that hold the fan in position so there is no pressue to hold it all in place and it keeps cutting out unless I hold it down myself.I bought a new heatsink today for a pentium 4 processor but it doesnt fit and I was told they are all standard ,mine has a machined 2"square protruding down in the bottom with a copper disc on it but the new 1 has a flat bottom the whole way across approx 2" x 3.5" and no copper pate .There is a small gap between the new 1 and the chip and it is still cutting out.Any ideas on how to resolve this or is a new motherboard required? Thanks for your help again.
