Outlook Express - Security Lapse?

Just received a Phishing e-mail which (for once) i initially believed to be genuine! I got as far as opening he mail but not clicking the link inside.

My bank asks for all e-mails to be forwarded to a certain address so i opened the message to do so. I noticed that OE was blocking some graphics as they might help the sender identify my computer. "Great!" i thought until i clicked the forward button and OE downloaded those graphics anyway!!

What was the point in that?
