  spuds 22:18 08 Feb 03

Recently a friend as received an email via Outlook Express, and the sender forwarded a new service taskbar which features smiley icons. The only problem now, is when my friend sends out any emails, the smiley set-up seems to attach itself to other users machines.I have received one of the smiley emails and it tried to wipe-out my incredimail programme.I have run a virus and skybot check, but this comes back as clear. Can anyone shed any light on this problem, and how can the problem be dealt with. It's becoming annoying.

Remember that these spyware detectors are not infallible. I use Spybot to keep clean but the new version of AdAware found four things that Spybot had missed. Depends how up to date you keep them.

As this thing seems little known on here, it may be very new and it would be worth while updating your spy checkers and doing another scan with several.

-pops-.This little beastie only raised it's head a few days ago.As I have said, I will be visiting my friends establishment early this week, possibly taking a specialised tool to fix their machine (large sledgehammer].

Gongoozler-sorry for the delay in response.Your link. Very similar in respect of the 'smiley' brigade. The problem that I experienced, was due to me receiving an email, which had been sent via a second party who had received an email from a first party, who had this 'smiley' in their system. When I received it, the 'smiley' seemed to attach itself to my email servers. This would have resulted in me transfering it to other users.I notified all parties involved, and we have put a block on it, and hopefully that as solved the problem.

I installed Hotbar on my machine and now itkeeps causing problems and opening my internet connection when it is refused permission by Norton Firewall. It wants to access the internet but what is it taking with it? Norton sees it as a Medium Threat cos it has no digital signature. Wish I had never downloaded it. and cant seem to get rid. Happy1
