Hands-on: Acer Predator Triton 700 review
Not my day today. Visited a new client with prob with OE. She uses Hotmail for her email and uses OE to handle it (I've not seen this set up before). When she launches OE and does send/receive, it tries to access hotmail, then says it can't connect. if she restarts the computer its just the same, then on another power up - all is well! We know that the password is correct, because we can pick up the mail via IE, and sometimes it works on OE. Anybody any thoughts on this?
Just my thoughts, could it be Nortons or some other Anti Virus protection stopping it with the e-mail scan. I had this before checking the settings in all including XP built in Firewall, then it worked fine.
OT I know but I believe that the facility to deal with hotmail through OE is being withdrawn in the not to distant future. Something to do with security?
Here is the story about it
This isn't curing my problem of the password being asked for every time I try and access and then get a photo prompt to type in -- then around and around but this is on MSN not sure if it means both ways
To protect our users from the increasing amount of unsolicited junk e-mail or spam sent from MSN Hotmail Sympatico Mail accounts through Outlook and Outlook Express, we have reluctantly had to restrict the new use of Outlook and Outlook Express to subscribers.
By making this feature part of a subscription, (which requires a user to provide billing information), we can more effectively manage and put a stop to abuse of this functionality, and help protect you and others from unsolicited mail.
If you purchase a subscription service such as MSN Hotmail Plus or MSN Premium, you get access to your account from Outlook or Outlook Express, along with many other added features. To see other benefits of upgrading your MSN Hotmail Sympatico Mail or MSN Sympatico/MSN accounts or to create a new subscription account please visit our subscription information page.
I have accessed hotmail through OE for yonks and can still do it now ;-)) I know they have talked about stopping it though for some time, but it still worked a minute ago. touch wood.
Do you find that connectability is governed by the number of messages in the hotmail inbox - which isn't emptied on access by OE is it? ie. usually once you access mail using OE it is downloaded into your computer and removed from mailbox, but this doesn't happen in this case with Hotmail - if you see what I mean (she has nearly 200 messages in her Hotmail inbox!)
People must love her....or does she send them to herself ;-))
Why does she keep so many ? I dont think it makes a difference though in OE.
In OE you can tick " leave message on server " then you can access it from more than one PC if needed.
Tell her to Read, Reply, and Recycle.
I don't know why she keeps them, some are two years old!
Anyway - do your Hotmail messages download into teh inbox in your OE - because hers don't - when she disconnects they are not in OE?
Hotmail has its own folder with all the sub folders in ie inbox, sent, deleted, etc, and all stuff goes to these and is there till you delete it.
If i delete them in OE, it takes them off Hotmail site also.
When i set up the account in OE, it asked if i wanted to put the Hotmail folders in OE, but i cant remember the exact wording. I did it a few months ago because i am on a new PC.
Make a Hotmail account and put it in OE to try it out ;-)) and you will see what i mean.
