Outlook Express expert needed

Outlook Express (6) is configured to automatically go to and display the Inbox when it opens but the mail has partially vanished. It is not displayed in the main Inbox window (it says no items to display) but next to the Inbox folder it shows the number of unread messages in the usual blue bracketed text (currently 46). Sending a new test message incrases this number and briefly shows the number of unread messages in the taskbar at the bottom of the OE window. I can access this account by webmail and everything is displayed where it should be including all read and unread messages in the Inbox.

Anybody got any bright ideas please? All the settings appear to be ok including go directly to Inbox (which it does but its empty).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
