Error 0x80004005 - Outlook Express - An unknown error has occurred

Article: 7102

Symptoms

When you attempt to receive an e-mail message in Outlook Express 4.01 in Windows 98 the following error message may appear:

An unknown error has occurred. Account: pop3.xtra, Server: pop3.xtra.co.nz, Protocol: POP3, Port:110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80004005

Cause

1. This problem usually occurs because of a corrupted *.mbx file. The file that is typically corrupted is the Outlook Express Inbox store file.

..............

An Unknown error has occurred...Error Number :0x80004005

The pop3uidl.dat file is corrupt. This file contains all the information regarding which messages on the server should be downloaded, etc. Try deleting this file (with OE closed), then open OE and check your mail account settings again.

The default location for the file is at C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail\Mail

It doesn't help to find a solution to your problem if you spread it out over two threads

You don't need to start a new thread each time you answer or ask a question related to your original post. I think you now have three running on the same subject. Mark two of them resolved and continue with just one.
No offence but as Sea Urchin pointed out it is confusing.

This thread is now locked and can not be replied to.
