Outlook Express - default mail client

I use a website that contains EMAIL LINKS, where a click on the name will enable an email to be sent. Recently, trying to contact a name on the LINKS, a message informed me "Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."
I can find no reference to Default Mail Client on Outlook Express help pages and am unable to resolve the problem. The message has come up only in the past couple of weeks, previously there was no obstacle to making the contact.Can you help?

Start Outlook Express, Tools/Options. Click the Make Default button.

Thanks to VoG, whoever you are - problem solved, yet I don't know what caused it in the first place. I hope that the addition of SP2 was not the cause!
