Outlook Express 6 & Zip files

I thought Zip files were not removed by OE6, but now I find that they are?

Has this security been increased by SP1, or a subsequent update?

Is this a case of Microsoft going 'over the top' with security?

I am upgrading to Norton Internet Security 2003 to take care of virus threats, so is OE6 removing files unnecessarily?

Go Outlook Express > Tools > Options > Security and take the tick out of " Do not allow
attachments to be saved or opened that could be a virus "

Thanks Joe - I know I can adjust the security settings.

I just thought that zip files were not automatically removed, before I downloaded all the XP updates?

Also I am interested in opinions on this features usefulness?

I think that the answer to your original query has to be in two parts:

1) For those of us who have regularly-updated effective anti-virus programs, it is over the top and you can safely uncheck the box.

2) Judging from the frequency of requests on this site (and no doubt others) about help removing viruses, obviously a lot of people either do not have AV or "fit and forget". For them it is a sensible security measure.

However, it might have helped if MS had posted a clear warning with SP1.
