Outlook - automatic download of emails on opening

How can I set Outlook 2003 to automatically download my emails when I switch it on instead of having to click on send/receive?

Tools --> Options
'Middle box' has a box to tick "Send and receive messages at startup".

Should have said Tools --> Options --> General tab, then tick the box.

I find it sometimes is not a good setting, as if I have done an email and not sent it, and change my mind next day, then it goes. Embarrassed me a couple of times, so now prefer the control of send/receive!
But everyone to his own :-)

Maybe I've got a different version of Outlook to you, but I don't have a General tab in options.

I've got
Preferences, Mail Set up, Mail format, Spelling, Security & Other

Outlook automatically downloads emails when it's launched - provided there's an internet connection it can use.

I think you're are referring to outlook Express.

I've got the same problem as you, despite having a brodband connection available when I open outlook.

I think that my copy of Outlook might be corrupt, the problem is that I cannot repair the programme as I have problems with Windows Installer (see other posting)
