I wanted to put an email into a new folder in Outlook 2010, but it has ended up as a sub-folder in Inbox. I've tried to access this sub-folder, but without success. How do I retrieve the email and put it where it belongs?

I have many subfolders and am at a loss why you cannot open the subfolder. I suspect a corruption. Suggest you run scanpst see MS Support

Yes, you can first try the Microsoft offical tool scanpst, also called Inbox Repair Tool to scan and fix the corruption in your PST file, you can refer the following articles:

click here that does not work, you may also try thir-party tools. I have used DataNumen Outlook Repair to repair badly corrupt PST files.

I haven't encountered similart situation as you mentioned so I am not sure if it will work on your case. But it provides a free demo so you can have a try.
