Outlook 2003 downloading duplicate e-mails

Outlook is downloading duplicate copies of my e-mails and it's driving me nuts. We can't delete e-mails off the server for regulatory reasons for 90 days and over 3M I have 75MB of e-mail. If I let it download the e-mails, I get 75M of downloaded e-mails and everything is OK until I empty the deleted folder when Outlook insists on downloading all e-mails on the server again!
.........aaargh!
Help....

Have you tried "Detect & Repair" under the Help tab? Also click on View/ Folder list, and make sure that you haven't inadvertently created a second set of folders. You can do this if you have "Restored" a .pst anytime

Go to "Tools-Options-Mail Setup-Send/receive"

You will see the time intervals for how often Outlook searches for new messages. Try increasing this value - its seems that if the period is too short you will get multiples of the same message. If that doesn't solve it is probably an anti-virus conflict.
