Outlook 2000 - messaging interface error

Hi there
I hope someone can help as I am out of possible solutions now. My boss keeps calling and telling me that he keeps getting this message on his PC while trying to delete items from his inbox. he is using Outlook 2000 with service pack 3 installed. "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, start Outlook again." Consequently, he is unable to delete anything. He had gone looking for potential updates, and had reinstalled outlook, yet the problem persists. I have read that there is a hotfix for this, but cant seem to find it. I've also read that one person archieved all his items in order to move from one folder to another but I dont see that as a solution as archieving emails everytime he wants to delete something is impracticle.
Please Help!
