optical drive purchase?

I have an Acer Aspire 8920g,i think the blue-ray drive needs replacing,it is at the moment,a Mat*!@:a,or Panasonic.can anyone tell me where i can purchase a replacement,and does it have to be the same model,thanks.

Looking at the Specification for your laptop this is what you appear to have installed - a Blu-Ray drive made by Optiarc (BD ROM BC-5500A)

It may be that it requires a Firmware update but as you have an drive with ACER OEM firmware and the drive needs such an OEM firmware from Acer to function properly,an Acer oem, firmware updates must come from them - however Acer (as of Nov 2009) has no firmware updates available - but you could check further with Acer if need be.

You could replace it with any decent make - this would be a "Retail" version and would come with its own software.
